Classes and Workshops
Jomon Pot, hand constructed,
burnished and smoked black.
by Elvie Rubio
Ancient Ways With Clay is a group of classes and workshops where students learn about the beginings of ceramics from pre-historic times to the Bronze Age.
This would include methods used by Native Americans, Etruscans, Jomon Culture, Early African, Pre-Columbian, and many others from around the world.
I teach to the vision of each student. They show me their vision of what they want to make in clay and I guide them through the process of making it using basic handbuilding methods, pinching, coiling, slabs and press-molding.
We do not glaze or even talk about glazing, however, I do teach how to refine your work in handbuilding and finish your work with burnishing and smoke-firing.
Classes and workshops can be arranged for small groups, no more than 6 per class.
Classes and wrokshops are always planned for a full day of work, 9 am - 4:30 pm, bring a light lunch.
I will also travel to give workshops in burnishing, and smokefiring. You may email me to make arrangements.
